Jesus - he underscored the divine nature of all human beings
God is not only our Creator, He is also our Father, and we are of the same essence as He. When Jesus said: ‘The Father and I are one’, he was summarizing in these few words the greatest mysteries of religion. Some will say: ‘Yes, but we’re not Jesus. He was truly the son of God, whereas we are sinners.’ If the Church chose to consider Jesus as God’s equal, as the Christ, the second person of the Trinity, a cosmic principle, thus putting an infinite distance between Him and human beings, that was their business. Jesus never said anything of the kind, he never claimed to be different in essence from other people. When he stated that he was the son of God, this was not to suggest that he was superior to the rest of humanity. On the contrary, in proclaiming himself the son of God, he underscored the divine nature of all human beings. If this were not so, what would be the meaning of his words: ‘Be perfect, therefore, as your heavenly Father is perfect,’ and ‘He who believes in me will also do the works that I do, and in fact will do greater works than these…’?
