‘I am He’ - the meaning of this formula from the sages of India

The sages of India have given us a formula of very profound significance: ‘I am He.’ This is a way of saying, ‘I have no existence as a separate, independent being. It is thanks to him, the Creator, that I exist; I am no more than a reflection. In seeking myself I will find He who created me. I am a non-being, an illusion. He alone is a reality.’* God has disseminated his substance in billions upon billions of creatures. So, we may say that in reality, no creatures exist; only He, the Creator, exists, and we partake in his existence. In order to live this reality consciously, we have a tremendous inner work to accomplish.
