Christmas - festival of light

Why do we celebrate the Nativity, the birth of Christ, at the beginning of winter? The answer is to be found in the book of Nature. All of life begins with a seed, buried in darkness in the earth or in a woman’s womb. And for the seeds that have been placed in the earth, winter is the season when the lengthy work of germination takes place, ending in spring with the birth of a multitude of new existences. And an identical work takes place in the psyche of each human being: in the dark earth, the lower nature, the seed of the divine Self, the Christ, begins to germinate. This is the event being celebrated by Christians on Christmas Eve... Indeed, it is at night, at midnight, at the time of the most profound darkness, that a birth takes place. And so in spite of the cold and the dark, Christmas is also the festival of light.
