Faith - only opens doors

Jesus said to the 'woman sinner', who stood near him weeping and kissing his feet, 'Your faith has saved you'. But you should not imagine that belief is enough to merit salvation. That would be too easy; anyone can be a believer and continue to live the life of a criminal. Many criminals say they believe in God, and no doubt it is true, but it is not their faith that will save them. A faith that is not expressed through corresponding behaviour and gestures or, at least, through efforts to achieve these is almost useless. Faith is really only powerful if it is followed by actions which are in accordance with what the person believes. Let's take a very simple example. You believe in the effectiveness of a medicine, but you do not take it: obviously, you get no result. But if you do take it, its effect can be two, three, ten times greater, thanks to your faith, than if you took it without believing in it. Faith opens doors and windows; it clears the way and allows you through. Therein lies its power, which is immense. But if you do not make the effort to go forward, of what use will these openings be to you?
