Discouragement - to avoid it, work at perfecting yourself

Many people among you are moved by an ideal of justice, honesty or goodness, but they do not know how to act, and continually clash with others, or end up discouraged. So, what should they do? Change their methods. However noble your ideal may be, do not concern yourself with others, just work at perfecting yourself. That is how, very gradually, whenever you meet people, you will impress them with your light and, as they look at you, it will become clear to them that they are squelching around in mud. Whereas if you try to visit them in their own mud, you will sink into it and get muddy yourself! Work only at becoming luminous and, even if you say nothing, whenever others see you they will understand that it is they themselves who have gone astray.*
