Discernment - apply yourself to perfecting this faculty

You should work every day to develop and perfect a kind of inner standard or yardstick that will enable you to judge with certainty all the events, circumstances, objects and beings you meet with, and to sense whether, by getting involved with a particular person, accepting a certain proposal, or undertaking some new activity, it will lead you closer to your spiritual ideal or further from it. We might say that this is simply the faculty of discernment, except that it has more to do with feeling than with understanding. It is very difficult to explain. This faculty is acquired through observation, reflection, meditation and prayer, and above all through vigilance. It is important to analyze yourself after every experience, to see where you stand on the path of true evolution. If you apply yourself to perfecting this faculty, this inner standard or radar, you will always be able to choose the right path, whatever the circumstances in life.*
