‘Without being born of water and spirit’ - commentary

Jesus said to Nicodemus, the doctor of law who had come to question him, 'No one can enter the kingdom of God without being born of water and spirit'. Water is a symbol for purity, and the spirit is a fire. The spirit (fire) needs water (purity), since the light produced by fire will only be revealed on condition that purity is present. So we must work on our heart and mind, so that one day we will be born of water - the purity of divine love - and fire - the light of divine wisdom. It is this new birth that opens the doors for us to the kingdom of God. Each manifestation in life is a birth. But the soul - which is the higher heart - and the spirit - which is the higher mind - are the sole cause of all births on the spiritual plane. We are inhabited by billions of entities, each one of which must be born a second time, and it is for us to give them the conditions for this new birth.
