Willpower is not enough - we need heavenly protection to resist our baser tendencies

If you cannot resist the inner impulses that torment you, it is because you have not developed enough love for the higher world of beauty, order and light. Your own willpower is not enough; we need the protection and help of heaven in order to resist. This protection, this help will come only if you really love perfection. As long as you do not have this love, you are sure to fall back into the traps of the astral plane. So, if I see someone who boasts that they have conquered their temptations, but who does not love the sublime world, I can tell them, ‘You will succumb, because you have no friend or associate to help you.’ First of all, you must love the heavenly entities and invite them to be present within you. Then, because of these high and powerful allies, all your baser tendencies will begin to submit to their authority.*
