Willpower - developing it through exercises

The will can be strengthened only by means of exercise, and the teaching of the Universal White Brotherhood offers you a great many of them. If you never do any exercises, you will never develop your will. People can give you knowledge, emotions and even wealth, but no one can give you willpower; you must develop it yourself. This is why disciples of Initiation are first required to strengthen their willpower through exercises and asceticism. This is difficult, of course, but there is no other way to make progress. By exerting your will, you gain a little something every day: a little more self-control, a little more knowledge, a little more wisdom and patience, and so on. Without willpower you will simply stagnate.*
