Occult sciences - erudition and true knowledge

There are people who are interested only in the occult sciences. They are proud to pass themselves off as astrologers, alchemists, magi and kabbalists, but the poor things do not realize that the appalling chaos of their lives has nothing to do with true astrology, alchemy, magic or Kabbalah. They would do much better to leave all these sciences alone! It is in daily life that we must demonstrate that we know something. We manage to accumulate knowledge from books, of course, and may even become very learned; but this is not true knowledge. True knowledge is being able to master ourselves, to free ourselves from our weaknesses, and no longer be constantly prey to inner turmoil. True knowledge is the ability to be a benign presence that shines light all around.
