Negligence and weaknesses - encouraged by technical progress

Advances in technology have provided human beings with more and more machines and products which will remedy all their mistakes, clumsiness and carelessness: they are designed to repair, glue, clean, and so on. And there is so much publicity for all these products! But no one is concerned about the psychological and moral aspect of the matter – that is, how to make human beings more aware of their thoughts and actions. Why pay attention, why be vigilant, when there are pharmacies, hospitals, garages, laundries and hardware stores? Extraordinary progress is made in the material realm, but in the psychic realm it is deplorable. And we talk about economy! True economy has to do with being careful and sensible; the other economy, that of the economists, is in fact an economy of expenditure and ruin. Do you truly wish to be economical, to have wealth and treasures which will enable you to help others? Well, you must be sensible; you must pay attention and become master of yourself, it is as simple as that.
