Nature - God’s true temple, whose priest is the sun

When humans consider that their churches and temples are the only dwelling places of the Divine, they impoverish their understanding of the sacred. Is there even one temple built by humans that can compare with the universe, the great temple created by God? Can there be a more sacred place than one created by God himself? How can anyone imagine that a building, a collection of crumbly materials, is more important to them than this work of God, which no one will ever be able to destroy? It is important to respect these temples and churches as places of prayer and meditation but also to understand that God can be worshipped in nature, his temple, especially in the peace and clear air of the morning. The sun, as it rises over the world, is the priest, distributing blessings of light, warmth and life to all creatures. Wherever you are on earth, the sun shines overhead. You do not need to travel or go on a pilgrimage to encounter it. It is the symbol of God’s omnipresence. His light, warmth and life are worth more than all the holy images and all the sacraments.
