Moral Rules - the Initiates gave them to us to protect us

In order to assert their freedom, human beings want to break down all the moral barriers erected by the initiates of the past, which were designed to protect them against the disorder of their passions. But people are so ignorant that they do not realize that this kind of disorder consumes their divine energies. For in order to feed the fire that possesses them, they are obliged to give it all they have got, all their resources and materials. It is a furnace that is fed by the very substance of their being. They cannot throw their neighbour’s goods or the trees of the forest into this fire; it can burn only their own reserves, their own fuel, their own quintessence. In order to sustain these states of effervescence and these volcanic eruptions day in, day out, they are obliged to burn their most precious energies. They do not know that they lose something of their intelligence, purity, strength and beauty each time. In the end, when everything is spent, they find that they have become stupid, ugly, weak and sick. The initiates did not give human beings these rules and methods to rob them of their freedom, but to save them from falling into such a state of wretchedness.
