Lasting transformations - gained by personal efforts not by magic

You are always waiting for a magus or an Initiate to reveal some amazing secret that will transform you in the blink of an eye. Well, that is unfortunate for there are no such secrets. People can be transformed only by their own diligent, daily efforts. If someone tells you, ‘Take this magic formula or talisman and it will give you health (if you are ill), peace of mind (if you feel anxious) and strength (if you are weak)’, know that these are the lies of a person who has a vested interest in deceiving you. On the contrary, a true Initiate would say: ‘My child, everything is possible, but only if you make an effort, and then what you gain will be so secure that nobody will ever be able to take it away from you.’ Besides, you need to know that whatever you gain through magical rites—and it is true that some can be effective—never lasts. It will not be long before you lose everything you thought you possessed, because it was not the fruit of your own efforts.
