Kingdom of God - the obstacles to its realization

I know that for many of you, the Kingdom of Heaven, universal brotherhood, these subjects I endlessly present to you as an ideal, represent a mere utopia, an ideal impossible to realize in present circumstances. No, it is not impossible. It is difficult, because human beings are not ready to abandon the satisfaction of their selfish desires and dedicate themselves to the realization of a divine idea. But it is not impossible. Instead of forever taking the earthly order as their point of reference, it would require them to study the celestial order and to realize here below the models on high. When Christians begin to take seriously the words of Jesus in the Lord’s Prayer: ‘Your will be done, on earth as it is in heaven’, this will be a sign of great progress. For two thousand years they have mumbled this prayer while continuing to obey only their human will, which is egotistical and unenlightened. It is not that the Kingdom of God is unrealizable, it is that human beings, beginning with Christians, fail to devote sufficient efforts to its realization.
