Flowers - an image of human beings of which we should only smell the scent

Learn to nourish yourself with the scent of flowers without picking them, for the flower you pick is already dead. God had put this flower in his garden where it was radiant and free. But, you wanted to put it in a vase in your home or in your buttonhole so that everyone could see the flower belonged to you. Why? Are you not content with being able to smell its perfume? Of course, the flowers I am talking about are purely symbolic. Flowers represent human beings, men and women, and the scent is their emanations, their light, warmth and poetic nature that radiates from them. No-one will criticize you for wanting to enjoy this scent; it is there for everyone to smell and in particular for those who are able to appreciate it. If, however, you picked the flower to take it away with you, you would be responsible for making the flower wilt and dry out. It was planted in God’s soil; why should you uproot it?
