Faith - ‘According to your faith let it be done to you’

Faith is not actually the cause of the miracles attributed to it; it is simply the condition without which these miracles could not happen. For miracles are produced by a force other than faith. You may have noticed in the Gospels that when Jesus healed the sick he would say, ‘All things can be done for one who believes,’ or ‘Go, your faith has made you well,’ or ‘According to your faith let it be done to you.’ You will say that since he possessed all powers, he could have healed these sick people even if they did not have faith. No, he could have done nothing for them if they were unbelievers, because the conditions for healing would have been unmet. He could have healed them anyway, but only by using violence, and it is never good to use violence. Jesus wanted the sick to partake in their own healing, opening themselves through their faith to spiritual forces that could enter and work in them. Faith creates the most auspicious conditions for the realization of all our desires.*
