Emptiness - the danger of this practice

Certain spiritual teachings advise their followers to use the technique of emptying the mind. They claim that by creating space within they will attract light, and a presence will come to fill them. I disagree – this is a dangerous method that we do not recommend. Becoming empty implies a state of passivity, and in this state you cannot be sure you are attracting the Divinity and not dark entities from the invisible world, which will see a creature without protection and be delighted to find a place to set up home. Those who open themselves up to emptiness without first putting the active principle into action to do an inner work of cleansing and purification are at the mercy of the worst entities. They become empty believing the Holy Spirit will come. Someone will come, yes, but not the Holy Spirit – what will come are devils. The Holy Spirit does not come to a hovel; it comes to a dwelling made pure and bright in readiness for its arrival.
