Do good - without expecting anything in return

How often you hesitate to show kindness, thinking that no one will appreciate your gesture, that human beings are ungrateful, even mean, and that it’s not worth trying to do anything for them. Well, that is a very harmful way of thinking, as it paralyses what is best in you. You may have done some good for someone and not been rewarded. You may even have been wronged. It does happen. But your behaviour should not depend on other people’s attitudes. Do good and expect nothing. Count only on the One who sees everything, who knows everything. He alone can appreciate your good and generous acts, so it is from him that your reward will come, but perhaps in a different form from the one you were expecting. You will be in better health, stronger, wiser and happier – isn’t that the best reward of all?
