Collectivity, the - everyone benefits if they work for the good of the collectivity

Most human beings tend to work only for their own ends, but this solution is not ideal, for if misfortune falls on the collectivity it will fall on them too. As long as the whole collectivity does not live in peace and prosperity, the individuals within it are exposed to misery or misfortune. Whereas if the affairs of the collectivity prosper, all individuals benefit – even if adversity strikes one of them, all the others will come to help. The foolishness of working only for oneself is very costly: suffering, wars and devastation. Unfortunately, since the time this has been going on, human beings still continue to work just for their own good, to the detriment of the collectivity. Everyone takes advantage, thinking that by looking after themselves, their future is secure. Well no! If misfortune befalls the collectivity, their happy little world crumbles around them, for they are part of this collectivity, and share in its vulnerability.
