Character - what really matters is working to form our character

We expect educated, cultured people to react in a measured, reasonable way in the face of difficulties, but more often than not, this is not the case. The slightest mishap throws them into pitiful states of anger or depression and they have no strength or willpower to rise above it. All their education and learning is of no help to them. When will people understand that what matters is not to be a professor, an engineer or an economist, but to live? What good does it do them to flaunt the riches of others that they have gleaned from books? It is what they themselves have accomplished that they should display; and if they have nothing to show, they would do better to leave their book knowledge to one side and start doing what really matters: working to form their own character.
