Blessings of heaven - conditions to fulfil in order to receive them

Heaven is there, wide open and ready to pour out its blessings but, in order to receive them, we must have prepared something within ourselves, through our love, our disinterestedness, our patience and our fidelity. All these virtues are fruits which we produce as offerings to the Lord. In return, when we need to ask Him for a favour, we are heard. Like those who have accumulated capital and have put money in the bank, we can at least ask for the interest. You will tell me that this is not a very poetic image, and what is more, that money deposited in banks has not always been honestly acquired. I know this all too well, but at least this image is clear. If human beings were more open to the truths of the spiritual life, which is true poetry, it would be unnecessary to use such prosaic examples to make them understand.
